The weekly emails exchanged by these two authors touch on so many messages that are relevant to living an international life: deciding when to go home, maintaining your identity despite the changing scenery, grappling with doubts about whether or not you've made the best decision, worrying about who you'll be if you leave your international life behind, caring for family members back at home, navigating a life in limbo...I could go on and on. As a mental health professional, I was especially grateful for the sections where the authors were vulnerable and courageous in sharing their own traumatic experiences and those of their sons, as well as the steps they had taken to cope with these challenges and care for their own mental and emotional health. |
